Hoppin John Black Eyed Peas
Time on High: 6 hours Time on Low: 10 to 12 hours Celebrating the farmer, a traditional Indiana dish was black eyed peas. Your family will be lucky when serving this over cabbage or with additional protein like garlic sausage or pulled chicken.
1 Bay Leaf
1 Tablespoon Cumin
1 Teaspoon Paprika
1 Teaspoon Thyme
½ Teaspoon Garlic powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon white pepper
1 Teaspoon ground Celery
1 Cup Black eyed Peas
1/2 Cup fresh Bell Pepper
1/2 Cup fresh Onion
4 1/2 Cups water or broth
Add 4 ½ Cups of water or broth to the Crock-Pot® slow cooker.
Add 1 Cup dried Black Eyed Peas.
Add Spices; Bay, Cumin, Paprika, Thyme, Garlic Powder, Salt White Pepper, and Ground Celery.
Stir the mix in the Crock-Pot® slow cooker.
Add fresh vegetables during the last 30 minutes of cook time.
Notes: Remove bay leaf before serving
