Time on High: not recommended Time on Low: 6 hours One of my favorite Chinese meals is beef and broccoli. I've loved it since I was a kid and I knew that there had to be a way that I could make this a bit healthier if I made it at home. The results were amazing! You don't have to marinate but if you can, do so for up to 12 hours with this recipe! The flank steak was really tender after marinating and I highly recommend it. No more Chinese takeout at home!

Ingredients

1 1/2 Pounds flank steak
3 Garlic cloves, minced
1/2 Cup carrots, shredded
1/2 Cup soy sauce
1/4 Cup white wine
1/4 Cup cooking sherry
1 Teaspoon sesame oil
1 Teaspoon maple syrup or honey
1 teaspoon dried ginger
1 Teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
1/2 T. peanut butter
3 T. brown sugar
2 cups of frozen chopped broccoli
Salt & Pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Cut flank steak evenly into 5 pieces.
2. Place steak in Crock-Pot® slow cooker.
3. Mix all other ingredients other than the broccoli and pour over steak in Crock-Pot® slow cooker.
4. Cover; cook on Low for 6 hours.
5. The last hour of cooking, stir in chopped broccoli.
6. Sir well to combine the sauce, meat, and broccoli.
7. Cover; cook one hour longer or until broccoli is tender.
8. Slice into bite-sized pieces and serve with white rice.

Not what I expected

I really wanted to like this recipe but was very disappointed. Meat came apart making it look like pulled pork and te soy sauce over powered the dish. Also i found it too spicy to give my kids. Looks like it’s take out for tonight. Definitely disappointed.

Delicious Brocolli Beef

I made this today and it was wonderful. I also added a bit more of sauce ingredients and I used beef chopped for stew. It was perfect. It was a hit!

Save money...watch the spice

This is a huge hit at our house! As a rule we avoid the crockpot as we don’t care for the cooked together all day taste of so many recipes. This does not taste like crock pot cooking!! I double the sauce ingredients EXCEPT for the pepper flakes so we have a little more sauce. The Pepper flakes were a bit hotter than 3 of the 4 of us cared for. I use whatever beef is on rapid sale and marked down at the butcher. This time I’m using a sirloin cut. I have used round in the past as this style of cooking keeps it tender. To make it a little healthier we serve it with brown rice.

AMAZING!

This is probably THE BEST crock pot recipe I have EVER made. I shared this with several friends, who have now shared it with friends, and I have heard nothing but rave reviews. I have a lot of company and I'm VERY picky about what I serve. I would serve this beef and broccoli dish without hesitation. What's great is that I can entertain while this is cooking in the crock pot and when it's dinner time it's easy to serve and everyone enjoys it! The only thing I did different with the recipe was to get fresh broccoli. But then I forgot to add it to the crock pot. So I microwaved it for a few minutes, added it to the crock pot for the last 15 minutes (so it could absorb the flavor) and served it over cooked basmati rice and it is wonderful! I can't recommend this enough!

Tender and Delicious!

The meat was so tender and the flavor was wonderful! I used frozen broccoli florets and cooked them in the microwave according to package directions, drained the water off and then stirred them into the meat and served immediately. This worked great for the texture of the broccoli, and we didn't have to wait another hour before we ate the meal. Served with jasmin rice. Will make this again! A time saving tip: make up multiple bags of meat and marinade in a gallon size freezer bag and freeze until ready to prepare. Take one out a couple days in advance to thaw and marinade meat. Makes it super fast to get it in the crock pot in the morning.

Due to gradual and even heating of a slow cooker, recipes featured on this site can be cooked in a range of slow cooker sizes. Most recipes can be accommodated in a slow cooker that is either one quart smaller or one quart larger than specified. If using a smaller sized slow cooker, please use caution when preparing your meal to prevent over filling. For smaller sauces and dips that call for 3 quarts or less, it is not recommended to alter the unit size. Crock-Pot® is a registered trademark and should not be used generically when referring to a ‘slow cooker’ within the recipes.
